Harry Gordon Shields R.B.A. (Born in Perth 1895-1935 died in St Andrews) Gilt framed oil on canvas,  signed, circa 1925 'The Old Course St Andrews, Towards The First Green' 60cm X 90cm (Please note the 'L' shaped tear on the lower left, length 2cm X 7cm) The artist trained at the Slade in London and was elected in 1898 to the Royal Society of British Artists. He combined art with his family business interests but still managed the exhibit in the UK extensively over a 40 year period. This work is historically important as it catches not only the Swilcan Bridge but also the original railway sheds and the old station masters office which is now The Jigger Inn (Part of The Old Course Hotel) the painting is well composed and the subject matter is likely to be a local St Andrews competition of the period.
