Mainly black letter. Wood eng. initials, mostly hand col. & gilt. Folio in eights. Rubbed 19th cent. half calf. Title repaired, with soiling & old annotations. Much chipping to prelims. incl. loss to corner of final dedication leaf. Fol. 1 lacking (commences at Fol. 2), Fols. 201 & 208 also poss. lacking. Last leaf very chipped & bound in reverse with the final index leaf/leaves apparently lacking. Underlining & old marginal annotations throughout. Imprinted at London in White Crosse strete by Richard Harrison, Anno 1562. Calvin`s most important and influential work of Protestant theology. (The annotations to the title refer to baptisms of the Mayson family at the earlier dates of 1542 & 1544). Sold not subject to return.
