Shipibo terracotta pottery vessel, 20th C, squat base with a wide neck, geometric patterns in brown and red surround a face with protruding features. 23cm high, 10cm opening diameter.

Acquired in 1984 while the owner was living and working in Lima, Peru. Purchased at Maroti Shobo in Pucallpa, a commercial centre for the Shipibo-Conibo people of the Amazon, alongside the Ucayali river.
The traditional open-fired clay pottery is crafted by women, with skills passed down through the generations.

Firing and other surface marks, some small chips and areas of loss to glaze, nibble on tip of nose.
Overall good.
