Medals of 8463 and 18453 Private T O'Brien of the Volunteer Company King's Own Scottish Borderers and the Northumberland Fusiliers comprising Anglo-Boer war Queen's South Africa medal (3rd type reverse) with five clasps SOUTH AFRICA 1902; SOUTH AFRICA 1901; ORANGE FREE STATE; CAPE COLONY; TRANSVAAL [8463 PTE T O'BRIEN VOL COY K O SCOT BORD], WWI war medal, victory medal and 1914-15 star [18453 PTE T O'BRIEN NORTH'S FUS], the four medals mounted together on dress bar, also a National Service medal [4180798 SAC O'BRIEN T W 1956-1959 RAF] in issue case, printed letter from King George V from Buckingham Palace, dated 1918 and reads 'The Queen joins me in welcoming you on your release from the miseries and hardships which you have endured with so much patience and courage. During these many months of trial, the early rescue of our gallant officers and men from the cruelties of their captivity has been uppermost in our thoughts. We are thankful that this longed for day has arrived and that back in the old Country you will be able once more to enjoy the happiness of a home and to see good days among those who anxiously look for your return.
