Addition of second storey to existing
building
The school wished to increase their library
space provision and accommodation for Sixth Form private study. The ability
to expand the footprint of the school is constrained as it is located
in the Green Belt, and it was decided to provide a first floor above
the existing single-storey library building.
To limit the load on the existing ground floor construction, the first
floor enclosing walls are constructed in blockwork with a coloured silicone
insulated render finish to give a contrast to the original facing bricks.
Lightweight metal roof tile profiled sheeting was also utilised.
A vertical platform lift was installed internally for the inclusion of
wheelchair users.
